South Valley Aquatics Director (SOVA) and Head Water Polo Coach

Michael Yenigues has been coaching youth sports for over 25 years.  He is currently a certified USA Water Polo Coach, a certified USA Swimming Coach, and a certified Water Safety Instructor.  Yenigues has earned a master’s degree (MA) in Coaching and Athletics Management and a second master’s degree (MS) in Coaching and Exercise Science.

Yenigues has coached varsity high school water polo and swimming at Mt. Whitney High School, Clovis East High School, and currently at El Diamante High School.  As a club water polo coach with SOVA for the last 9 years, Yenigues has brought teams to the USA Junior Olympics National Championship Tournament in the Boys 18U, Boys 16U, Boys 14U, and COED 12U age groups. His COED 12U team in 2023 earned the top seed in the Central Zone and finished 7th in the nation at the highest (Platinum) level.

Yenigues has successfully created and integrated a USA Swimming Club into SOVA to ensure Visalia has a competitive swim option for student-athletes. Yenigues also successfully partnered with the Visalia Unified School District to create the Middle School Water Polo Program to expand the local school district athletics to include water polo at the middle schools.

“I am incredibly proud of the work that Mr. Yenigues has put into making this program not only available for our middle school students, but the work he has done to create teamwork, to include our high school students as mentors to these students who are new to the sport, and for creating an environment where students will thrive and succeed, said Superintendent Kirk Shrum.”
